FAQs

Based on the experience of our Help Desk, below are the most common situations our clients bring to us.

I HAVE A BLACK SCREEN.

Verify that the monitor is plugged into power and turned on. Verify that the monitor is connected to the computer, and that the computer is turned on. If a power strip is being used, make sure that it is securely plugged in and that it is turned on.

I HAVE A BLUE SCREEN.

The resolution method used depends on what the Blue Screen error is. You can look up the error code displayed with the blue screen online. A technician can use that information to look further into the problem. We can help diagnose and repair the problem.

MY COMPUTER SUDDENLY CANNOT FIND A PRINTER.

It depends on whether the printer is connected via USB to the computer, or whether it’s connected over the network. The first thing to check would be Devices & Printers in Windows to see if it’s recognized there. If not, it may be a printer driver issue and one of our techs can help out.

If the printer is on the network, the first thing to check is whether the cable is securely plugged into the computer and the printer. If a cable is available try using a different one. If the problem persists, one our techs can help.

I SPILLED WATER ON MY LAPTOP.

The first thing you must do is make sure that the laptop is turned off and DO NOT turn the power back on. Our recommendation is to air out the laptop for at least two days. It should be taken to a tech for further inspection.

MY LAPTOP WILL NOT CHARGE.

This could be the battery, power adapter, or power connector on the laptop. If the laptop doesn’t turn on at all, it would probably be the power adapter or connector. If the laptop turns on and Windows says it’s plugged in but not charging, it could be a bad battery. It also could be a broken or damaged power receptacle that the charger inserts into. We can help determine what the root cause is and recommend a resolution.

I SUDDENLY DO NOT HAVE AN INTERNET CONNECTION.

The resolution method used depends on whether the device is using a wired (Ethernet) or wireless connection. It also depends on whether only one device or several are affected by the issue. For Ethernet connections, the problem could be something such as loose/bad cabling or a bad network card in the computer. For wireless connections, the problem could be something such as a failing router or a turned off wireless radio on the laptop. For further help in finding and resolving the problem, call our Help Desk.

I HAVE A CRACKED SCREEN ON MY LAPTOP.

We are able to replace most broken laptop screens. Once we have the laptop’s model number, we can get you the cost of a replacement screen and our installation fee. If you want us to proceed in repairing it we will give you a quote. The actual replacement usually takes half an hour to forty-five minutes.

I CAN HEAR A WHIRRING SOUND COMING FROM MY COMPUTER.

The computer would have to be disassembled to look for the source of the sound. It could be a cable getting tangled up with a computer fan, or it could be a failing piece of hardware inside the computer. We would need to have the computer and open it up to diagnose the source of the sound and then let you know our estimate for the repair.

MY COMPUTER WILL NOT START UP.

The first thing to check would be the power cord connection to the computer to make sure it is solidly connected to the wall or a power strip. If a power strip is used, you must check that it is solidly connected and it is turned on (displays a colored light). If you find no obvious connection problem, you should call our Help Desk and talk to our tech.

HOW CAN I GET EMAILS ON MY SMART PHONE?

It depends on what kind of smartphone you have, and who your email provider is. Android and iPhone both have built-in mail programs which would need to be programmed to the proper email account settings. The email provider should have those settings available by calling their support line or going to their website.
